Many Non-Resident Indians from Rajasthan want a home or an investment back in Jaipur. NRI property investment in Jaipur is straightforward if you follow the rules. This guide covers the basics. For your own situation, always check with a chartered accountant or lawyer.
What NRIs can buy
Under India's foreign exchange rules, NRIs and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) can buy residential and commercial property, such as flats, houses, shops and offices. They cannot buy agricultural land, plantation property or farmhouses without special permission.
How to pay
- Pay through normal banking channels: an inward remittance from abroad, or your NRE, NRO or FCNR account in India.
- Payments in foreign currency notes or travellers' cheques are not allowed.
- Keep every payment receipt and bank record. You will need them when you sell or repatriate money later.
Home loans for NRIs
Most major Indian banks offer home loans to NRIs. You will usually need your passport and visa, proof of overseas income and an NRE or NRO account. Banks that fund Virat Krishnav include SBI, PNB, HDFC, IOB, ICICI and Axis Bank.
Buying without travelling: power of attorney
If you cannot be in Jaipur for every step, you can give a trusted family member a power of attorney to sign documents and handle registration for you. It must be drafted correctly and, if signed abroad, attested at the Indian embassy or consulate.
Checks before you invest
- Verify the project on the Rajasthan RERA portal. See our RERA guide.
- Ask for a written cost sheet with every charge.
- Ask for a video call walkthrough of the site and the sample flat.
- Read the agreement for sale carefully before you sign.
